After four centuries spent bearing witness to the history of the palace, then of the museum, the Cour du Sphinx is a testament to the transformations of the Louvre and its collections. Whether it was called the Queen’s Courtyard or the Infanta’s, Monsieur Girardon’s little garden or the Cour du Sphinx, it has been the setting of many a story.

Unfortunately, the centuries have caused its beauty to wane. The necessity of restoring it completely and adapting its museographic design is now apparent.
